Western Australia's Minister for Water, Graham Jacobs, formally announced today that work on the Perth's second desalination plant will begin within three weeks, following the signing today of contracts with the SSWA (Southern SeaWater Alliance) consortium to build the $955 million project and operate it for 25 years.
This confirms the selection of SSWA as they preferred consortium, announced in November 2008. The SSWA consortium comprises Tecnicas Reunidas (38%), Valoriza Agua (38%), AJ Lucas Group Limited (19%) and WorleyParsons (5%).
Lucas' chairman and CEO, Allan Campbell, said "Lucas is very pleased to be part of this consortium and working to support Australia's water infrastructure."
"Tecnicas Reunidas and Valoriza Agua are two of the world's most experienced companies in desalination. Over the past two years we've built a strong working relationship with them as we bid for, won and planned for this project. We're also pleased to be able to work with WorleyParsons, with whom we have a relationship going back many years."
